A Clamping-Circuit-Based Voltage Measurement System for High-Frequency Flying Capacitor Multilevel Inverters

In an era where high-frequency flying capacitor (FC) multilevel inverters (MLIs) are increasingly gaining attention in energy conversion systems that push the boundaries of power density, need for a compact, fast, and accurate FC voltage monitoring system is also increasing. this article, we designed developed new measurement system, based on precise sampling inverter switching node voltage, through bidirectional clamping circuit. The deviation voltages from their nominal values extracted by solving set linear equations. With single sensor per phase no isolation requirements, as opposed to dozens sensors traditional monitoring, our approach results significantly lower cost, complexity, circuit size. Detailed device-level simulations LTspice system-scale MATLAB validate accuracy speed proposed balancing strategy steady-state, abrupt load change, imbalance conditions. Experiments carried out three-phase gallium nitride five-level prototype reveal gain precision bandwidth more than 30 times conventional methods, at fraction cost footprint. recorded performance renders ideal solution fast MLIs wide-bandgap technology.
